The Weekend Round-Up: Literary Links to Love VI

In case you haven't been social media stalking me this week, here are some of the literary links you may have missed out on.

Tit Elingtin and I were interviewed about Eminent Domain at The Best of Everything (link is now defunct, unfortunately).

Gabe Habash, in his Publisher's Weekly blog, brought us the best book memes of 2011 (another dead link, alas).

According to Entertainment Weekly, Chris Columbus, who directed the first two Harry Potter movies, is collaborating with YA author Ned Vizzini to produce a 3-book series called House of Secrets. Could be interesting...

Speaking of my favorite, phenomenally popular book franchises: as much as I love Twilight, I can't help but get a chuckle out of "If Famous Writers Had Written Twilight."

This book came out in September, but I just discovered it now: Fitzwilliam Darcy, Rock Star. It's not a mash-up, but a P&P-inspired tale in which Darcy, Bingley and Fitzwilliam have a band, and their new opening act is Long Borne Suffering, a band featuring Lizzie and Jane Bennet and Charlotte Lucas. It's just about the coolest thing since Little Vampire Women.

If you're enamored of Pride and Prejudice and its myriad sequels and tributes, you might also like The Spinster's Vow by Enid Wilson. It's another Lizzie Bennet-Fitzwilliam Darcy romance.

Our favorite TV inspired by our favorite books: here's Fangs, Wands and Fairy Dust's summary of the most recent crop of supernatural TV shows, including The Secret Circle (based on the L.J. Smith novels) and my new favorite, Grimm.

Now the sexy stuff:

Sex toys, this article states, are increasingly being marketed to a religious audience. Why not?

Finally, if you need a little liquid inspiration, you can always order a make-your-own absinthe kit (sorry, that link no longer works). I can't resist making this terrible pun: absinthe makes the heart grow fonder.

Literary Links to Love IV + Patriotic/Dirty

Happy Veteran's Day!

Hopping by from the Thanks For the Books Blog Hop? Want to win a box of paperbacks? See the giveaway post here.

This is too cute: the Hokey Pokey, William Shakespeare style (sadly, a dead link).

Two of my favorite subjects: Roy Askham, the author of Edward and the Twisted Queens (historical time-travel BDSM erotica), writes a blog called Sex and the Spiritual Life (defunct).

The female-empowerment blog The New Scheherazades featured a book called What Women Know by Michelle Jackson and Dr. Juliet Bressan. The authors are from Ireland. The book collects bits of wisdom women had passed down from their grandmothers and mothers.

Can I count set photos of The Dark Knight Rises as a literary link? Of course I can - Batman started out as a comic book! Christian Bale looks really hot on a return trip from Starbucks, winter-themed coffee cup in hand. See here.

See also this serious (but very interesting) academic discussion, "Building a Better Batmobile," about how Batman as a fictional character is portrayed between the two poles of the Gothic and Pop Art aesthetics.

I wanted to read Batman Vampire for a long time, but I never did.
Speaking of the Bale-Steinem family, Ms. Magazine founder/feminist icon and incidentally Christian's stepmom Gloria Steinem recently weighed in on the Victoria's Secret fashion show. She says, "Women's bodies are not just ornaments, they're instruments." Read about it at The Cut. I wonder what Steinem would say about this blog post? It features male and female bodies as ornaments.

Speaking of the Victoria's Secret fashion show, model Anne Vyalitsyna, superhot girlfriend of Maroon 5's Adam Levine, revealed an interesting tidbit about her boyfriend: he collects men's superhero underwear. She likes to wear them to bed. This also comes from The Cut. Oh yeah, Levine definitely deserves the top spot on the Jewish Dudes I'd Most Like to See Lewd list - especially if he wears Batman undies.

My Vampirish 2nd Reading on Edin Road Radio

I made my second aural appearance on BlogTalk Radio's Edin Road Radio show last night. I read an excerpt from "Oakley Falls," the short story I contributed to Vamps: Lesbian Stories With Teeth (edited by Lorna Hinson, Torquere Press). The tale concerns a vampire stripper who finds herself locked in the vault at her place of employment, The Third Eye Gentlemen's Club. I then had a brief chat about writing with host Jesse V. Coffey. But don't worry if you missed the live broadcast - you can replay the episode on the Edin Road website, and soon Jesse will also produce a podcast. She'll also create a link I'll be able to embed as an audio player, so I'll add that to this post as soon as it becomes available. I salute Jesse for her amazing audio skills.

I read an excerpt from Eminent Domain on July 5, 2011.

Elizabeth Black, the originator of Man Candy Tuesday and inspiration for "The Older Dudes I'd Most Like to See Lewd," contributed the short story "Neighbors" to Vamps.

Find Me on Smashwords

Eminent Domain, the second crime thriller I co-penned with my hubby Tit Elingtin, is now available in paperback and e-book. You can find the e-book for Kindle and Nook, or get it from Smashwords and download it in any format you like. Through October 10, 2011, you can get it FREE on Smashwords with coupon code FG99J.

Visit my Smashwords profile and you'll see I've put out three books. One is Midsummer Night (Pagan Spirits Book 2).

The other full-length book I have on Smashwords is The Erotica Anthology. It's a bit of a teaser for Beltane (Pagan Spirits Book 1), but it also contains some of my previously published short stories, and the exclusive short story "Herbert." I was giving the anthology away free for a while, and I may do so again in the future, but for now you can download it for $0.99.

My other $0.99 e-book on Smashwords is the short "Josephine Baker in Berlin." An aging, lonely Josephine Baker has one last chance to dance across the stage, but only if she accepts an invitation to visit Berlin. The destination unlocks long-buried memories of the decadent pre-World War II Berlin, and of a beautiful young woman who reached out the star and eased her loneliness.

My short stories also appear on Smashwords in several anthologies listed under the incomparable erotica author and publisher Selena Kitt:

Happy Endings - Contains "Bat Mitzvah," a m/m romance in which the bat mitzvah's Uncle Mark rarely goes to temple, but has a revelation when he lays eyes on the gorgeous new cantor, Ilan Kauffman.

Wonder - Contains "Butterfly Boy," a f/m paranormal featuring good fairies and a very bad fairy.

Divine Matches - Contains the f/m paranormal "Black Bear Skin," a Norse myth-inspired tale featuring Freya, the naughty queen of the Valkyries.
