"Late September Song," A Poem by Linda Pastan

With the sound of
a freight train
rushing
through the trees,
the first strong
wind

of autumn
makes each
leaf
sing the song
of its own
execution.

Erin O'Riordan's note: This volume of poems showed up, donated by an anonymous donor to my Little Free Library. I read it in July 2024.
